Did you know that your brain acquired a boost when you started SottoPelle® Therapy? Research now provides abundant evidence of the vital role played by hormones (testosterone, progesterone and estrogen) in brain function, especially in aging men and women. In fact, according to Dr. Rena Li, scientist and associate professor at Sun Health Institute in Sun City, AZ, the most common premise as to why women are at higher risk for developing Alzheimer’s is their reduced estrogen production after menopause.[1] On the reverse side, epidemiological studies have linked hormone replacement with a decline in the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. All the more reason to continue to replace these important hormones when there’s a deficiency.

But something else besides your hormone levels also seriously impacts your brainpower—and that’s the food you eat. There’s good brain food and bad, of course, but saturated fat and sugar, staples during holiday food fests, are two of the biggest brain drains.

High-Fat, Low Brain Function

Research studies on high-fat diets continue to connect many diseases and health problems to eating too much ‘bad’ fat. (That’s the saturated fat found in animal products, some cooking oils or the trans fats like those added to microwave popcorn.) Scientists have also found especially strong links between what we eat and how our brains work.

Eating a meal that’s loaded with saturated or trans fat seems to starve the brain of its energy supply. Research shows that a steady diet that’s high in cholesterol and saturated fat can cause harmful inflammatory changes in the brain that are linked to a significant decline in the ability to think, learn and remember—something most of us in the 40+ crowd can’t afford to lose due to too many cheeseburgers.[2]

Ubiquitous Sugar

The foods most of us gravitate towards during the holidays are typically those that are high in sugar. Holiday stress can really add insult to injury. During times of stress your cortisol and insulin levels go haywire and cause you to crave sweets and starch. Unfortunately, every bite raises your blood sugar and lowers your mental functioning. Remember your pre-SottoPelle brain fog? Say hello again!

Holiday Coping Strategies

There’s nothing wrong with a little seasonal indulgence, but too often holiday weight gain sticks with us. If you’re on the plus side to start out with, it’s even tougher to drop those pounds after the holidays are over. The best plan is to have a plan. Maybe these tactics will work for you, or you can invent some of your own:

• Eat healthy meals during the week and save the treats for parties or family gatherings.

• Don’t overindulge – keep portions small and eat a healthy snack beforehand.

• Keep a holiday food diary.

• Reduce stress: smile more, watch funny movies, go for a walk, breathe deeply and get plenty of rest.

• Keep your SottoPelle® appointment! Let us keep you in a positive stress-free mode with healthy hormones.

And remember, it’s not what you eat from Thanksgiving to New Years. It’s what you eat from New Years to Thanksgiving Day that really counts!

November has been designated as National Prostate Awareness Month. As the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. among men, almost a quarter million (approximately 240,000) will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.

There’s a medical myth about prostate cancer that’s flourished in the U.S. for generations (since the early 1940s, in fact)—that high testosterone causes this cancer to grow. The wisdom shared in medical schools over the decades stated that giving testosterone replacement therapy to men with prostate cancer was tantamount to “pouring gasoline on a fire.” There are many physicians today who still believe this and remain reluctant to restore testosterone to physiologic levels.

But the theory that high testosterone is bad for you flies in the face of logic. In reality, men in their 20s and 30s never manifest prostate cancer—ages when testosterone levels are at their peak and in balance with the rest of their hormones. If high testosterone fueled prostate cancer, it would be most prevalent in young men. Rather, it’s seen predominantly in older men with low testosterone. Thank goodness research has finally caught up to the incongruent logic of previous theories.

Dr. Abraham Morgentaler, Associate Clinical Professor of Urology at Harvard Medical School and Director of Men’s Health Boston, has been at the forefront of putting the misconceptions to rest. He discovered the flaws in previous research and conducted several key studies himself, including an important review of literature published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2004. His conclusion after a year-long review of the scientific literature was “that testosterone therapy did not increase the risk of developing prostate cancer.”[1]

Current evidence also supports the view that testosterone therapy is both safe for the prostate and good for the health. Low testosterone, on the other hand, has been linked to increased risk of prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and osteoporosis, not to mention afflictions such as fatigue, depression, reduced sex drive, erectile dysfunction and loss of muscle mass and strength. Restoring this vital hormone to physiologic blood levels, as SottoPelle® Therapy does, has the opposite effect of supporting all of these systems and functions. [2],[3],[4]

In fact, SottoPelle® Therapy has been treating men with low testosterone or hypogonadism for almost 2 decades now for exactly that reason. After years of performing his own research, testing and analysis, Dr. Gino Tutera pioneered this remarkable method of natural hormone therapy based on the science of endocrinology and abundant research supporting bio-identical hormones and the pellet hormone delivery system. He’s now treated thousands of patients using his system and seen remarkable results. Perhaps the best endorsement is the fact that both he and his wife, Carolann, have received SottoPelle Therapy for more than a decade.

OK, take a deep breath, the holidays are upon us. For women, this time of year means a lot of extra demands on their time: the planning, the shopping, the cooking, the travel, not to mention, the drama. If you’re someone who goes into a frenzy trying to recreate those perfect holiday celebrations for family and friends, it’s time to take pause. Stress is not necessarily your friend.

Our bodies are programmed to survive, which, of course, is beneficial. In response to stress, the heart rate, blood pressure and blood sugar all rise to help us meet the physical challenge. Adrenaline, cortisol and other stress-related hormones also surge in life-threatening situations and serve important functions. Most of today’s stress, however, tends to be from psychological threats and not physical dangers. The stresses of work, family and an over-busy schedule can take their toll on us physically. Health issues like high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, and diabetes have all been linked to the overuse of the body’s fight or flight response. It upsets the healthy hormonal balance that keeps us operating optimally.

According to The American Institute of Stress, there are 50 common signs and symptoms of stress, a few of which include: insomnia, frequent headaches, difficulty breathing, sighing, neck ache, depression and constant tiredness.

Maybe it’s time to assess your own stress levels and do something about it—before the holidays arrive. In fact, you could make your New Year’s resolutions on November 15th. Here are a few suggestions for reducing stress:

1) Take more hot baths

2) Meditate for 15 minutes a day

3) Start your day with deep breathing and stretching

4) Go for a walk after dinner

5) Eat more vegetarian meals (but don’t slack on protein)

6) Share tasks or make a cooking/baking date with family or friends

And here’s a SottoPelle reminder: when you’re under stress, your body uses more hormone in order to cope. This includes testosterone, estrogen and even the thyroid hormones. So don’t postpone your regular SottoPelle appointment around the holidays! SottoPelle bio-identical hormones are your friends when it comes to stress.

We Baby Boomers grew up in a time of prosperity; one that introduced all things ‘convenient’ including the food we ate. Swanson TV dinners and refrigerated cookie dough became part of the landscape then; not to mention fast food staples like Taco Bell, McDonald’s, KFC and Dunkin’ Donuts.

There’s no doubt about it, Americans love the convenience of eating out, even in this economic slump. In fact, surveys say that we’re currently eating out an average of 5 times a week! But the question is how healthy is it?

Needless to say, not very; especially when you consider that a typical restaurant meal provides almost an entire day’s worth of fat, calories and sodium but not much in the way of minerals, vitamins and fiber. When Hippocrates said “Let thy food be thy medicine,” he could not have envisioned how important that would be in today’s age of convenience.

The point is that the food you eat is essential to supporting your ongoing health as you age. Why not forgo some of those unhealthy restaurant meals and learn how to make healthier choices when you do eat out? It’s really not that hard to switch from the rib-eye to the fish entrée; skip the baked potato and sour cream and opt instead for veggies and a salad with dressing on the side. Many restaurants will gladly reshape a meal to work with a diner’s health needs.

Remember: just as SottoPelle Therapy is replenishing vital hormones, your body also needs key nutrients to sustain it. It’s time to take on the other caveats to healthy aging: a nourishing diet, regular exercise and other activities to support your mental and emotional well-being.

Did you know that science-based bio-identical hormone replacement using the pellet delivery system can play a vital role in your health as you age?

In this compelling follow-up to You Don’t Have to Live with It! Uncovering nature’s power with SottoPelle bio-identical hormones, Dr. Tutera addresses all sides of the hormone replacement question, including: the need for balanced hormones as you get older, the checkered history of pharmaceutical hormone replacement, and the abundant research supporting the use of bio-identical pellet therapy.

Frankly, if you’re one of the millions of men and women who are hormone deficient and considering hormone replacement therapy, this is a must read.

In reality, every person of every age needs balanced hormones. Research clearly shows that hormone loss destroys the body’s state of equilibrium and promotes an environment inviting to degenerative disease and the health issues of getting older. It’s medically obvious that restoring normal hormone levels in a natural way—one that the body is familiar with—is key to supporting things like heart health, bone health and healthy insulin levels. That’s why I spent years of research to get SottoPelle right. And that’s why it changes lives every day.
Gino Tutera, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

The weather came in like a lion this past March and it definitely had some of us in hibernation. We saw rain, wind, clouds, and low temperatures here in Arizona. We hid in our houses waiting for Mr. Sunshine to make his presence known again. But now that the sun has returned and it is finally end of April. the weather is warm, the flowers are in bloom, and everything looks new and refreshing. We can all now say goodbye to winter and say hello to spring. And what better way to say hello to the new spring season than by catching spring fever. That’s right SPRING FEVER!

The one fever everyone cannot wait to catch. Unlike a regular fever this one makes you feel happy and amazing. Though I bet for some of you, your health and hormones are keeping your spring fever from rising and keeping your temperature at a dull 98.7 degrees or less. For many of us spring brings with it allergy season and an increase in health problems. Some see spring as the season of hay fever and pollen that get our noses running and our chests a heaving. No one should have to spend their spring afraid to step outside; it is time to get up and get your spring fever burning.

One way to make sure you are among the people catching spring fever is by making sure to take any allergy medicine you need to stay healthy. Another way is by staying well hydrated throughout the day, not just when you are outside. The last way to make sure you catch spring fever is to make sure your hormones are balanced. An imbalance in hormones, according to SottoPelle Therapy, can lead to lack of sleep, loss of energy, depression, loss of sexual appetite, and so much more. Spring is not the time for these symptoms to be affecting you.

SottoPelle Hormone Replacement Therapy is what you need to send these symptoms packing like March, and have the ability to catch Spring Fever. So why keep your spring temperature at 98.7 degrees, when you can have it start burning up!

It’s 5:00 am and your alarm goes off. It is time to start the day, but as you lie in bed trying to catch a few more minutes of sleep, you think to yourself, “I do not have to be at work till 9:00 why am I getting up so early?” As you lie there pondering this question, you suddenly remember why you are getting up so early and that is to exercise.

Exercising is never an easy thing to do and for many of us we solve this problem by not exercising at all. But with Spring now here the need to be outside in the sun has become a top priority, so why not get a little exercise in while you pick up Vitamin D from the sun. Exercise is great for not only the body, but the mind as well. As we begin to increase in age we lose muscle mass and our exercise tolerance begins to decrease. We are no longer at the age where physical exertion as easy as it once was. We are more at risk for cardiovascular diseases and other bodily problems than ever before, but by just exercising for a mere 30 minutes a day, and even in 10 minute increments, the chances of these problems happening to you begin to go down in numbers.

For some of us though a change in our hormone balance could be the cause for the lack of exercise tolerance. If that is the case, call us at SottoPelle Therapy. Our therapy has been effective balancing the hormones and increasing not only exercise tolerance, but muscle mass as well.

Say goodbye to winter and hello to spring. Say goodbye to that dreary bare trees and say hello to the blooming, colorful flowers. In order to get that great body back into shape some of us will be hitting the gym and other’s of us will be doing the one thing we dislike, changing are diets.

Keeping to a healthy diet is never easy, especially during those long winter days where the only thing keeping you warm is your favorite comfort food. However, just small changes in your diet can not only allow you to keep weight off, but remain healthy while doing so. For example, instead of ordering side of fries with your burger, see if the restaurant has any fresh fruit. Or instead of having a 16oz steak, try an 8oz. Or instead of the can of coke with lunch, try having a glass of water. Small things like these, along with regular exercise, will not only help you shed those extra winter pounds, but they will also help you embrace a healthier lifestyle.

However, if you are still looking at me saying, “I have done this and nothing has changed” maybe it is an imbalance in your hormones that need some thawing out. An imbalance in hormones can cause significant weight gain in males and females. We at SottoPelle want to help you with your hormones. SottoPelle Hormone Replacement therapy will not only help decrease body fat, but can help increase your energy level as well and help you look and feel great. Remember, we are only a phone call away: 480.874.1515 or visit our website at www.sottopelletherapy.com.

Remember the days when you felt like you could take on the world. The days when you would wake up in the morning, after a good night’s sleep, excited to tackle the day. Do you feel as if there are days when it is hard to get out of bed because your energy is so low? Those days of getting up and feeling energized are slowly beginning to become numbered and are starting to become nothing, but a mere memory. But it is time to fix that!

There are many ways for you to improve your energy levels. You might find it has nothing to do with your lifestyle, but an imbalance in your hormones that is causing your energy to be so low. As women and men begin to age their levels of estrogen and testosterone begin to decrease. If these hormones become imbalanced it can cause a series of side effects, like a decrease in energy level. Many of you are probably thinking that you are far too young for something like this to happen, but hormone imbalance can start affecting people as young as 30. So why wait until it is too late.

SottoPelle Therapy may just be what you need to increase your energy levels. Our treatment can have you back to having that great night sleep you long for; and give you the energy you need to tackle the day. Unlike many other hormone therapy treatments, SottoPelle’s is symptom free! So why wait! We want to help you achieve the energy levels you need to tackle the day. We want you to be able to get up in the morning and say “I Can”, not “I Can’t”! Remember, we are only a phone call away: 480.874.1515. We are always here for you.

Flowers are blooming, the temperature is rising, and the pool is calling. That can only mean one thing…summer is right around the corner. But the summer can be a disappointment for those of us whose energy levels are hitting their freezing point. So before the summer rounds that corner why not do something to heat up your energy levels. You could be like everyone else and try exercising more, or changing your diet, or but why not try a new approach: SottoPelle Hormone Replacement Therapy.

As we grow older men and women bodies are affected by the imbalance of hormones. This imbalance in your hormones can cause a person to have depressing side effects such as: lack of sex drive, hot flashes, and even a decrease in energy levels. But with our therapy we assist in helping both men and women regain the energy they have lost and have the energy they need to have an amazing summer.

Bonnie K. said, ““Thank you for saving my life, my marriage and for giving me back my energy and self worth… I feel 500 percent better and you were wrong about me feeling 35. I feel 25! Bonnie are just one of many who have tried our therapy and now it is your turn to try it.

Do not wait until it is too late. Summer will be here faster than you think. Remember, we are only a phone call away: 480.874.1515. or visit our website at www.sottopelletherapy.com.

We are always here for you.
