Dr. Sonja Perkins is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Perkins specializes in minimally invasive gynecologic, laparoscopic, and robotic laparoscopic surgery as well as alternatives to hysterectomy. Her interest also includes urogynecology and infertility evaluations. Dr. Perkins is also a clinical instructor for physician assistants and medical students, and enjoys training students to be caring and competent providers for women’s healthcare.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota but raised in central Florida since birth, Dr. Perkins has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Tampa since 2003. Dr. Perkins worked in Atlanta, Georgia from 2000 to 2003 in a private group practice of obstetricians and gynecologists before relocating to the Tampa Bay area. She attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where she earned her baccalaureate of science and engineering in biomedical engineering in 1991. Her doctorate of medicine was received from the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Perkins completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 2002 at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan.
She is married with two energetic boys, and enjoys participating in local community activities and sports.
For two consecutive years, Dr. Perkins was named one of the top OB/GYNs in the Bay Area by Tampa Bay Metro Magazine.
