James (Jimmy) R. Beckham, M.D., was born and reared in the Mississippi Delta. He earned a B.S. degree from Mississippi State University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi. He did his OB/GYN specialty training in San Diego, California, while serving in the U.S. Navy. After spending three years of active duty service on Guam and in Jacksonville, Florida, he entered private practice in Greenville, Mississippi, with the Gamble Brothers Clinic. He earned board certification in 1987 and has been annually recertified since that time. He is a Fellow of the American Collage of OB/GYN.
Dr. Beckham has long maintained an added interest in hormone replacement since his training, which was heavily weighted in infertility and endocrinology. He has seen the technology change from synthetic oral and parenteral products in the l980’s to the now available bioidentical pellet implant therapies. Science is now supporting the benefits and safety of hormone replacement using bioidentical products that produce a steady state of hormones in the body. The increased cancer fear put forth by the media after the WHI studies of the 1990’s is being debunked. I am excited to be able to make this relatively new science available to my patients to allay their symptoms associated with age producing hormone deficiencies. We are happy to see and hear our patients proclaim that they feel better, sleep better, and enjoy a higher quality of life. Patients no longer have to accept the sometimes devastating symptoms associated with decreasing hormone levels.
I am a practicing obstetrician gynecologist seeing female patients daily for my entire career. Now realizing that male patients share some of the same symptoms, i.e. low energy, decreased libido, and decreasing cognitive ability, to name a few, I welcome male patients in for testosterone supplementation if their clinical situation warrants.
