Dr. Barnthouse was born and raised in Kansas and earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Kansas. He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, where he served as Chief Resident and was awarded the J. Milton Singleton Award for Research & Education. Additionally, Dr. Barnthouse completed an internship in Family Practice.
Dr. Barnthouse co-founded a private group practice in Kansas City where he practiced both Obstetrics and Gynecology for 25 years. With a long-standing passion for women’s healthcare – and in particular, the Gynecologic issues affecting women of all ages – Dr. Barnthouse chose to focus the scope of his current practice on the Gynecologic and surgical needs of his patients. Areas of specialized training include menopausal medicine with integration of bioidentical hormones, breast wellness and early detection of breast cancer, and sexual wellness.
In addition to being certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Barnthouse is a member of the following professional organizations: American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, North American Menopause Society, International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, and Kansas City Gynecological Society. Dr. Barnthouse has presented numerous papers to the Kansas City Gynecological Society and has served as OB/GYN Department Chair at Baptist Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
Dr. Barnthouse lives with his wife and five children in Leawood, Kansas. When not caring for patients, Dr. Barnthouse loves to be outdoors and spend time with his family. He maintains medical staff privileges at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, St. Luke’s East Lee’s Summit Hospital and St. Luke’s East Surgery Center.
